I guide talented professionals toward fulfilling careers that prioritize joy and minimize burnout.
About me
MY EXPERIENCE
I have over 20 years of experience as a physician leader, mentor, and faculty advocate, and I am certified by the University of Michigan as an executive coach. I have worked as a practicing pathologist, educator, researcher, and administrative leader at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the University of Michigan, and I have served in leadership positions on several nonprofit boards including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. I am an internationally known author and speaker, and I lecture widely on mentoring, time management, and career development. I also have formal mediation training through the Arkansas Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, and training in Crucial Conversations.
MY PHILOSOPHY
Talented, educated people with skills that are in high demand typically have many choices and opportunities. Established professionals are often hesitant to explore other options once they are on a certain career path, and they often make choices based on what they think they should do, what others expect, or what brings the most material gain. My goal is to help people craft professional lives that prioritize joy and fulfillment and minimize enervation and burnout.

Testimonials
“Laura guided me to intentional review of my time management and led me to develop a rubric to evaluate potential opportunities. Equipped with this new framework,
I have had greater productivity, personal and professional satisfaction.”

“The most helpful aspect of working with Laura has been the reminder to take care of myself and find work/life balance to optimize well-being, which actually makes me a better physician. She made me feel that my struggles are normal and don’t mean that I’m not doing a good job. I don’t think we talk enough about the challenges of our jobs and the unfair expectations and demands we put on ourselves as we compare ourselves to others, and talking to her has kept me grounded!”
— A.S., Rochester, MN
